The Starbucks Experience

It's CRAZY to me that some people get to have Starbucks once a week. There are some people that get it EVERY. DAY. I can't even imagine that.

I don't spend money at Starbucks (you know us...DaveRamsay.com) and I only treat myself when we have a gift card. We get gift cards at Christmas, or whenever a parent gives one to Sarah has a gift, it automatically becomes mine. So I probably get Starbucks 4-5 times a year.

But when I get a gift card, I immediately start to plan when I'm going to make the glorious trip to the land of green straws and sweet, sweet coffee treats. I think about which store I'm going to go to, who could go with me, where I'll go after I get my Starbucks to enjoy it.

When I get to Starbucks, the barista probably thinks I'm special. I act like I'm about to receive a million dollars. I burst into my story about how I never get Starbucks and I'm so excited and I never, ever get this. But then I order in a cool, calm, collected way. "Can I have a....."  and then DANGIT. EVERY TIME. I always forget what the sizes are. The only one I ever remember is Grande, so I say that. They usually look at me like "Oooookay...." And then ask for my name.

I wait impatiently for my grande Carmel frappachino, and feel like such a cool kid when they call my name and I pick up my drink. For a moment, I am one with these other daily coffee drinkers.

They probably think I'm one of them. That this is something I DO! I think to myself as I casually (gotta be cool... stay cool) unwrap my straw and walk out the door.

Oh the Heavenliness of that first sip, it never gets old. When I push the door open to leave Starbucks, with my drink in one hand, a diaper bag over one shoulder and a toddler in the other arm, I feel like some Beyonce song should start playing, something about being a BOSS or being really awesome. A fan blowing my hair back would be cool too, but I take what I can get. Natural wind is fine, but don't blow my hair into my whipped cream. Anyway....

I don't even have time to take the popular Starbucks in my car picture to post on every social media site, because I'm so excited about the deliciousness I'm about to enjoy. I love every sip, and I use the straw to scoop out all of that delicious whipped cream at the end.

I love how the cup looks in my cup holder. For a few miles, I'm a super cool, Starbucks drinking mom.  When people look over at me at red lights, I sip and tell them (in my head) "Oh this? I just popped into Starbucks like I normally do. Not a big deal. Just sippin' my frap...." I figure thats how Starbucks regulars talk to each other, so I just try to do as they do.

My $15 gift card is now spent, which means no more treasured plastic cups and green straws in my future. But I think I'd kind of prefer it that way. I mean, if I got Starbucks regularly (like once or *gasp* twice a month) it could dull the sparkle that is my Starbucks experience.

So the next time you lucky coffee drinking ducks get your weekly foo-foo drink, think of me, and try to appreciate the sugary gold you're about to consume.
